!!Past...Present...Future!!

Hi all , these are some of my artworks that i have created entirely from photoshop , in a culmination of appropriated pictures sourced from a variety of mediums i have ended up with these three pictures which could be seen in an instalment of 3 images as a timline .

PAST:
In the first image it shows myself in front of a vast luscious landscape with rolling hills and winding roads with many forks along the way, these things all representing the “journey ahead” or the trials and tribulations to come. But all the while there is always a main focus and prominent direction on the gleaming sun representing the final goal which holds all hopes and dreams.

PRESENT:
in the second image it shows myself huddled in a dark corner, as I sit secluded as my world is falling apart around me. The path I had once been following has lead me to a dark corner representing the feeling of being lost in a place with the only sight of a once prominent light/dream trickling through the walls that are now falling down around me. Scorned hands from events im not proud of stain me, but still there is life in this dull surrounding, there still remains direction, our eyes are drawn towards the sunlight and the flow continues.

FUTURE:
In the final image it once again shows myself, but for the first time my face is not hidden. As a life of many trials has taken its toll on myself I decay, my whole world has now fallen into nothingness and I find myself in eternal ether.
Within this final image there is no direction, there is no light at the end of our sight, for I have reached the light I had always dreamed of, but in the end found it was not what I thought it would be.
I have reached the final point in my life, the final climax. I burst into flame to be reborn. For new life awaits me, I have now become the light I forever searched for. The luscious green grass suggests that although at an end, there is still something else to come.

within assessment number 2 i have successfully completed all tasks on the checklist , my blog site is exactly to my likeing and the aesthetics i believe are pleasing to the eye.

the flow of my page is pleasant and there is no harsh colours or objects interfearing with content and functionality ,there for the aesthetics have not "changed" that much since last assignment , but i have tidied the html and i am 100%happy with its look.

within each of my accounts i believe i follow a theme, and have immersed myself in this digital realm online.

on the second day god created lip sync in animation ...... and on the third , the word FUCK!! so every animator could express them selves!!!! lolol

this is my lil whinge about myself being so stupid as to choose so much dialogue.... bahhhhhh!!

anyways over that now , if you have any suggestions on lip syncing then dont hesitate to fire away , but i think its just goin to be one of those things that takes time .

attention!

once again my flippent mind has recreated my story , after days of ripping apart my story ive realised what it was that hages was trying to say to me about my animation, he was asking where the story was going, there wasnt surprise in anything , you knew exactly how it was going to end as soon as it started..... and it didnt really have much flare......................

i was there with the impression that my visual would be able to get me through, but i realised , that you cant even begin to play out your story in your animation if there is no real body to it. And until this morning i was at wits end , for i had reached a point in my storyboard where i couldnt fill the gap of story line , basically basing the whole story on 1 thing.
so here it is

my new story board

ok now let me tell it in english
-2 boys sit it a sand pit , each with thier favourite toy.....
-scott has come to visit timmy and scott has brought along his new toy robot, while timmy has his all time favourite bunny
-during the animation scott is bagging out timmy because he believes that his bunny is stupid and for girls and babies
-scott decides that this bunny no longer should be around and sets out to feed it to the dog
-the boys struggle with the bunny , and result in the bunnies ear being torn off completely
-timmy runs inside crying to tell his mum wat scott has done
-he tells his mum and she looks out the kitchen window to see what scott was doing , when hse finds he is no longer there
-the camera then cuts to the side of the tree that is out of view and scott has been beaten up cuts and bruises and his now suspended upside down in the tree and the bunny which he had torn from timmy is rested against the tree.
- the camera then zooms into the face of the toy , and the bunnys face slowly turns to an evil smile and an eerie quite chuckle.....
-screen goes black.

- THIS !! Is the newest update for my animation.....? this is just before he chucks a psycho and goes for the kill........the room starts to dull to red (to really emphasise the mood) and he gets ready to launch

p.s. he will most probably have claws soon hmmm the marvel of Photoshop hehe !!
p.p.s. I should probably go to sleep now, when its 5 past 5 in the morning, and you have to get up at 7:30...... It doesnt really leave much time for sleep hahahahahah!!! Lol how bad is it ah well my bunny looks more evil then ever mwahahahahahahaha!!!

- hey all ............ ive decided that ill help all of those out there who thought I needed to be a bit more specific in what my storyline is

ok ..... you know that teddy that every one has when they were a kid that they absolutely destroy and it ends up being this manky dirty mouldy thing that once upon a time ended up under your bed or in a closet, and never re-emerged....
well this is kind of a story about that teddy from the teddies point of view....
it starts off with this teddy who over the years of enduring gross mistreatment has become this psychotic mess who resides within the living jungles that lie underneath the bed........

as the story plays out we see the teddy/bunny lurking underneath the bed ,silently but intently watching the young boy whos room he lives in ....... mean while having "triggered flashbacks" (flashing back to some of the horrible things that this child has done to him [ things like flushing him in the toilet , ripping his head off , and leaving him outside to guard the sand pit ...leading to him getting torn apart by the dog ,etc] ) all of the flashbacks build up inside him making him into even more of a psychotic mess building upto a rage where he flies out and decides to finally get back at this kid for all that he has done to him.....
the final scene of the bunny attacking the boy is still pending...
there is two options im thinking of,
A - the bunny flies out and attacks the boy...the scene turns to slow motion as the camera shot is from behind the bunny as it launches towards the boy ready to slash him..... the camera shot turns to face the rabbit (from the boys perspective) as the bunny is just about to slash him the screen goes black and you hear the boy scream a death defying scream, and then words fade up on screen "take care of your teddies or your teddies will take care of you"......
B - or you see the bunny slash the boy and just as his sweeping slash comes to the end of his arch, the boy falls to the floor.... it fades to black and fades back in to a shot close up of the bunny ..... and for the first time in the story the bunny talks , and in a really creepy voice he says " take care of your teddies or your we'll take care of you"

(p.s.as each second goes by I think of knew bits to add or subtract, tell me what you think shoot ur ideas , this is still in the early stages of thought , im pretty happy with it so far )

im starting production of some artistic "prepics" , and as soon as I get the go ahead from hages im gonna get into it

-hey all , I was waiting to draft my first Photoshop image before posting my wip link , so now that ive done so I can tell you all about my idea and the aesthetics of it all

here is my first concept sketch of my deranged looking bunny
"IN A NUT SHELL" my story line follows the deranged/disturbed bunny as he finally takes his stand against the child that has left him by the way all these years, taking revenge for all the things done to him....... all in all , take care of your teddies or your teddies will take care of you!!!!!

This is the over all look im going for here.......detailed photoshopped backgrounds , and certain photoshopped bunny shots.....(the more important ones.....like in ren and stimpy when they have really detailed shots to emphasise a point

there wont be too many scenes where there will be alot of moving character walking wise , so I can afford to spend some time on a more pleasing aesthetic look!:)

but there will definantly be some teddy coming to lifing, and hopefully plenty of slashing

Interestingness by definition is “the power of attracting and holding ones interest , because it is unusual or exciting.”

Within my blogspot,
flickr and delicious accounts i have created an integrated, functional workspace, which is a part of my daily workings with not only MPI104 but all of my subjects.

In each of my accounts i have linked my self within communities inside and outside of MPI104, and have immersed myself in the world of online communications.
Thanks to these accounts i truly do believe i am starting to have an online identity like never before!

And then to the point of interestingness... i do truly believe that each of my accounts hold "what it takes" to be classified as interesting, thought provoking and all the while holding the viewers attention throughout.

Firstly lets begin with my blogspot account: matts animation network

This blogspot has truly been a gift to me as i have embraced it and harnessed its power for all its worth.
In my blog i wanted something more than just a simple day by day whinge session at the world and all it holds.I wanted to bring something forward in my blog, something more, something people could use as a tool themselves.I decided that i would take this opportunity to immerse myself in this world and at the same time promote myself as an up and coming animator, and show to the world who i am and what i can do , all the while hoping i could help people that are embarking on the same journey as i.
this way i can show my ongoing progress with animation vfx aswell as covering all elements of mpi104.

to list all the elements i have completed on the checklist for my blog:
✓ in my sidebar , i have links to my blog archive(sorted by month) , blog labels(sorting into category), blog links to 12 of my mpi104 class mates , links to my delicious and flickr accounts.
✓ i have over 19 extensive posts.
✓ i have links in most blog posts when neccesary.
✓ i have conected with many people commenting on thier blogs and posts alike
✓ i have updated my profile on several occasions , with more about myself.
✓ i have uploaded a picture for my profile
✓ i have not only experimented with templates , but read into the html coding and adapted my own template which is completely unique , including layout and colour scheme.
✓ i have tried different fonts and colours of font and page to find the perfect combo which is easy to read and flows nicely.
✓ i have many pictures and videos , voicing my animation process and animations.
using html coding to embed video in my postings.
✓ all my posts have titles
✓ my blog has an unconventional blog description :) ... it is my page banner which i have made in photoshop, and entered it into my html for page set up.
✓ i have 15 added page elements , including archiving , labels 2 permanent embeded video players which i change the videos weekly , i have a scrolling led sign saying the name of my site , i have a stream of news powered by google(with topics animation and pixar and such),i have a game running in my side bar where people can play snake, i have a video stream (which shows the latest animated videos) ,i also have an rss feed from my delicious account,i am linked with technorati ,and lastly but not leastly have a counter wich i am proud to say has reached over 400 hits!!! since its been running !!!!

now onto flickr:

flickr has been a great tool for easy transfer of photos into my blog and also is a great way to start in depth conversations and share my images worldwide.
to list the stuff on the check list:
✓ i have uploaded pictures , and continued to upload pictures as ive needed them for my site .... thus i have progressively used it as ive needed it .
✓ all my pictures have titles and descriptions and are all tagged with mpi104-2007 plus there own personal tags.
✓ i have joined the mpi104-2007 group , i have pushed photos to the group and also have started 2 topics , one light hearted topic , and one much more serious topic to create a great conversational aspect to this awesome site.
✓ i have joined other groups around the world and pushed my pictures and views to them , as well as starting my own group and recruting fellow animators.
✓ i have commented on other peoples pictures , and have nominated favourites.
✓ i have a profile about myself on my account
✓ i have posted a link to my flickr on my blog page. and on the metablog.

and lastly to my delicious account:

now this site saved me ALOT of time...... every site i use every single day is on this , it saves me so much time, i just got to one page, and can surf to all my favourite places from here.......it is a complete neccesity to my work stream.

to list all the points on the checklist ive done :
✓ i have saved bookmarks , and overtime added more , as each and every day i find new sites to add to my remarkable shortcut to the net.

other special stuff
✓ i have completed every one of the 50 or so marks from the checklist,
plus added many of my own little checkpoints as ive seen fit for my blog and such...
✓ i have also created a sister blog page , which is linked directly to my main blog page , which is soley devoted to animation videos, (this saves much loading time for when people look over my stuff...... ) plus adds to the flows of my page , as if it were to cluttered it would not be pleasant.

there are so much more things i could say about the time ive had so far with these accounts , i could go on for pages about it. but in the end the proof lies in the accounts.
In conclusion , my network of accounts which i have created for this subject have such depth , that people could immerse themselves amongst it for hours and hours of entertainment... and my sites hits prove my point as my site has reached over 400 hits!!
So in my opinion ,interestingness could be found within my accounts in every way !

and due to my perfectionistality..... ive added yet more additions to my walkcycle to make it look a lil more snazzy!!!

in this new version there are some foreground elements, to add some realism within the parallax scrolling .... i have also created my sound track.

i have used a wonderful program called "acid pro" it uses multi track recording...
so as my character is a commando .... i decided to make the viewer create the background of a war in thier mind , with the use of sound...... even though they cant see the war happening they can hear it , there for they believe its there ...

today only for your eyes is the first showing of my final prototype for my assignment number 1 for vfx101 :) how exciting !!!
many many hours have been spent on this project , and many designs and walk cycles have been thrown by the way , to come to the fruition of my finely tuned character COMMANDO FLASH POWER!!!!
hehehe im so excited to finally have something i can call almost finished:P
there are a few extra features of this walkcycle that will be left till the viewing next week!!

hours of animating leads me to a very vital part of a convincing walkcycle..... it is of course the background!!
bomp ...... bomp ..... boooooomp (dramatical reverb) :)
yes this is a quite annoying part to focus on here.
taking me time to figure right techniques on the speed of the background.......

working with many layers ...... i try to create a landscape that fits AND WORKS!!
proving to be harder than first thought...... i continue to work ...

i just remembered something , that i thought may be of help..........
a while ago when my walk cycle was begining , i accidentaly did it in 12 fps
!!!NOTE!!! the frame rate must be 25 fps!! it is quite hard to fix it up once finished an animation ............... and the walkcycle must be exactly 10 seconds long......
luckily all is well now and comando flash power is fully forced up with 25 fps goodness.......................>>>>>> we all love you flash ... well at least i no i do:):)

its another day , and another step along the way .... to bringing skelly to life
.... but last night i hit a wall, there was a floor in skellies creation , he had no personality and his face gave him limits to what i could do with him ....
that is when like a mad scientist i stayed up all night , with thunder in the skies in my laboratory .......... chemicals and the perfect charge of lightning would bring him to life!!!!
and it was at that very moment when commando " flash power " (thats his new name :P) came to fruition, and then the painstaking task of plastic surgery was to occur !!

-------------------->>>>> and then it comes to the hands ..... aaaahhhhhh very dreadful..... i hate them ... lol but it was worth it in the end
i assure you this is still a prototype, but is now in the very final stages of production......... :P:P

i wrote a character plot which helps with facial animation .... i always find it best to write thier personalities before i try to create them fully.

this is a step by step look at my progress so far , and very very soon you will be able to see the end product....

it is at this point where i make final decisions on charactrer look and all aspects of his features , because it will decide how exactly his finished walk will look.
bit by bit we add skin and flesh out his appearance so he no longer looks like skelly.......

that means hes going to need a new name ..... :) .... stay tuned and you will find out more!!

it was a haunting day when the wise and wonderful andrew hagen gave us our first assessment for vfx101 ... the blood drained from every first years face , as our hearts and jaws hit the ground as he spoke those chilling words..... DUE FIRST WEEK BACK!!! ahhhhhh horrified screams and flailing of limbs were just some of the tell tale signs that the first years didnt think they were ready for this...

we were to create a 10 second "looping" walk cycle.. easy enough i hear u say...................................
.....shame on u to underestimate the complexities of the human anatomical structure!!

as i sat in my chair i tried to hide the undoubted horror that had struck me , and immediately i decided i would not rest that night until i had come up with something,
something more , something worthy.

i decided to start with a base skeletal structure, as this was my first walk cycle i believed it necessary to understand how it is we move...
so i once again i began with concept sketches ^^^^^^ as you see above , and labeled all parts accordingly (always necessary to be organised) and from here i was able to begin animating

i scanned in my little man that at this point is named skelly , and fixed him up so he was now living in the computer world. it was now time to rig him up in flash.
now that was done , it was time to do a little research on how it is exactly that humans walk , with the greatest text book of all , me and a mirror:).

next i did a little google hunting and found some fundamentals of the cycle , and with a little time , and some more of my good friend V energy drink .
my first prototype turned out like this >>> skellies first steps<<<

after showing this at dailies the very next afternoon , i was very pleased with my nights efforts , i took the little suggestions from my peers , and fixed it up to make it all look just that little bit better.
firstly colouration of different limbs so to see which was passing which , and adding slight facial features and movements.....with all this taken into consideration i ended up with this second prototype which i was pretty happy as my next step >>>skellies growing up and filling out:P<<<

skelly is still in production mode and hopefully makes it past decision time , for i have a couple of other projects in the wings that may just steal his place for the animation that gets handed in !

'bip and bop' my new animation

3 weeks ago i was suddenly struck with inspiration that led me down this path that seems next to endless . this path leading me to the creation of a cartoon that sprung onto my page borders one afternoon during vis 101.....
with a program i had only started to play with 3 days earlier , i set out to create FLASH magic ....:)

i decided that " throwing my self in the deep end was the only way " , and i got straight into a very diverse and powerful program , that i have grown to love like a child (you really would wish to kill it most the time during ... but in the end the results are usually worth it)

i have learned soooo much up to this point , although these results aren't extensive , but i assure you i have spent many many hours working on this so far and things are starting to move along nicely:)

1- i began with my concept sketches
2- and then created the characters with flash , using more than 12 layers for each,
3- i played with audio and lip sync in part (which was a massive leap ahead for a beginner flasher with no experience) and recorded my own sound track on guitar.
4- and thanx to a new found addiction to V energy drink , and my uncanny ability to survive with out sleep , i bring to you the first viewing EVER of my work so far

my story

one term has come and gone and i glance over my shoulder to find where the time went. as i take a break for a minute and think to all that has happened upon myself in the last term , i have realised for the first time in my life , i am truly happy at "where im at". its incredible how much my life has changed in such a short time. just 3 months ago , i was accepted into charles sturt university .... it was one of the most amazing times for me , leaving my job at woolworths i packed my bags and set off to begin my life in the course bachelor of arts:television production . yes you heard me right , television production!

after a most drunken O week , we were ready to begin our classes.
it was my first day of classes , when many could say fate intervened ... i accidentally entered a humble little theaterette in the svpa, to sit in on the introductory animation vfx lecture.
as the metaphoric clouds parted and the sun shone through on to my face as a heavenly choir sang in harmony , i realised that this course that i was completely oblivious to , was exactly where i wanted to be!
i listened intently to the rest of the lecture and as soon as the lecturer/course co-ordinater hages :) was set to leave the class , i approached him and attacked him with a barrage of questions, and with a wise guiding hand , and hages' word , i left and signed my papers to change myself in to this wondrous new course i happened upon on my very first day.

being a half blood if you will , half proddie / half animator (though i had not attended any television classes) i took my first brave step , into this very acute and refined group of young minds ready to achieve greatness, as a stranger .
working my way to find my place amongst the group to find my niche of friends.

i worked hours on end each night to produce animations to show to the class in the dailies , and to my own judgement , i think Ive earned my place to belong here:)
after my first term , and many hours in front of my computer , i believe that the pure blood of an animator runs through my veins , and will do so for as long as i live.

i ask my self, what other career can you hand your self a free pass to life, a life where you not only never have to grow up , but are given the opportunity to remain a kid forever ......i believe ive made the right decision
